Highlights of Dr. Tam's March/12 presentation
- No need to check INR with baseline bloodwork (only if enzymes, u/s etc abnormal)
- No need to routinely check HDV. Consider if, for example, elevated enzymes don't make sense in context of HBV viral load.
- Don't use afp for screening.
- Regarding referrals, there were no specific recommendations. We all agreed that a referral to a specialist to provide continuity of care for monitoring makes sense, as the most important thing is that pts with HBV get f/u and often our patients get lost in the medical system, or with a new FP that doesn't have any HBV interest.
